For more than half a century, investments in space have transformed life on Earth. Technologies developed for missions beyond our planet have led to innovations ranging from advanced solar cells and satellite communications to medical devices, water purification systems, and countless everyday products.
Space Solar believes the next breakthrough could once again transform our terrestrial world while redefining the benefits space has to offer.
The company is developing orbital solar power satellites that collect uninterrupted sunlight above Earth’s atmosphere and wirelessly transmit clean, continuous energy to the ground. By meeting Earth’s growing demand for reliable, carbon-free electricity, Space Solar aims to build the commercial foundation for infrastructure that will one day power both our planet and future operations in space.
For Space Solar, Earth’s energy market provides the opportunity to scale the technology, while the same infrastructure could support lunar bases, orbital facilities, and the next generation of commercial space businesses.
Looking Beyond the Horizon
Solar energy has become one of the fastest-growing sources of electricity worldwide, but every solar farm faces the same limitations. Nightfall, weather, seasonal changes, and the need for large amounts of land all affect energy production. Batteries help bridge those gaps, but they add cost and complexity.
Space Solar believes the next evolution of solar energy begins by moving the power plant into space.
By placing large solar arrays in geostationary orbit, the company can collect nearly continuous sunlight above Earth’s atmosphere and wirelessly transmit electricity to receiving stations on the ground using low- power density radio frequency waves. The result is renewable energy that is available day and night, regardless of weather conditions.
Turning Vision into Business
The concept of space-based solar power has existed for decades. What has changed is the commercial environment.
Lower launch costs, reusable rockets, advances in robotics, lightweight materials, and modular spacecraft design have dramatically improved the economics of building large structures in orbit. According to Space Solar, the challenge now is engineering the economics. Lightweighting, scaling manufacturing, assembly, and deployment to make orbital power generation commercially competitive on a pathway to being the cheapest form of power for the planet.
The company’s CASSIOPeiA architecture reflects that philosophy. Rather than relying on a single massive spacecraft, thousands of standardized modules can be manufactured, launched, and assembled robotically in orbit. This hyper-modular approach improves resilience, supports mass production, and allows capacity to quickly scale as demand increases.
Building Two Markets at Once
While Earth’s energy needs provide the ultimate commercial opportunity, the technology naturally extends beyond our planet.
The same ability to generate abundant, continuous power in space can support future lunar bases, orbital manufacturing, commercial space stations, and other long-duration infrastructure. Company leaders noted initial conversations with NASA about how space-based solar power could contribute to future lunar operations.
Space Solar’s roadmap serves both Earth and space. Investments made to strengthen energy infrastructure on Earth help establish the systems needed for higher power systems for sustained operations beyond it, and new commercial solutions like orbital datacentres and in-space manufacturing.
A Two-Way Space Economy
Space Solar is focused on a terrestrial energy market, but its technology begins in space.
The company’s orbital solar power stations are designed to deliver continuous, carbon-free electricity to Earth, creating a commercial business built on growing global demand for reliable energy.
For Space Solar, the opportunity extends well beyond generating electricity. It is about building scalable infrastructure in orbit that serves a practical market today while opening new possibilities for tomorrow.
